DEFINITION
“The social production of habitat (concept developed in Latin America) encompasses the process and the product resulting from the collective effort of individuals to build their own habitat: housing, towns, neighborhoods and even major urban areas. By processes of social production, the affected people draw, plan, implement and maintain the habitats and urban components, providing solutions to problems that arise in their lives.”
“Social production is a person-centered, using several methods of self process, starting from the individual self spontaneous, collective production characterized by high levels of organization and production, negotiation, participation and tense complex management. It often involves a joint venture between local communities and governments, and occasionally with the private sector. Its goals are not profitable but is solving practical problems and so says human rights consistent with the principles of human dignity, State responsibility and justice.”
“The production, improvement and integrated housing management and people-centered human settlements are found in rural and urban areas. The concept refers locally and puts up the capital and emphasizes the social control of the designation of priorities, planning, construction, distribution and use of land, housing and neighborhood. Housing production centered on the Community means collective action aimed at satisfying human needs, refers to housing and habitat as the culmination of a process and not only as a material product, such as social and cultural organic product and not not as exchange object. values as residing in the pooling of all partners in the work, time, experience, materials and funds.”

NEW SOCIAL PRODUCTION OF HABITAT PLATFORM
At the initiative of Urbamonde (Switzerland), a new global platform is seeing the day (2014-2015). The objective of this platform is to develop common tools and common methodologies to
- Promote the exchange of experiences, even develop an international award HSP.
- Increasing documentation and understanding of existing projects to relay through various media.
- Increase awareness and partnerships related to the HSP, in particular to participate in Habitat III, ICLEI, UCLG WUF, etc.)
- Develop financial and technical assistance to support the link building mechanisms between the actors.
